A simulator for training on electrical equipment delivered to Akkuyu NPP

June 24, 2024 – Büyükeceli, Mersin Province, Türkiye. - A simulator has been delivered to the Akkuyu NPP construction site (being built by Rosatom State Corporation) to train employees of the station's electrical workshop to perform operations on the electrical equipment.

The simulator, manufactured by All-Russian Research Institute for Nuclear Power Plants Operation (part of the management circuit of Rosenergoatom Concern, the electric power division of Rosatom State Corporation), is designed for training in maintenance and repair operations of electrical equipment. The hardware complex of the simulator includes real cells of the electrical equipment of a Power Unit. During the operation of the NPP, such hardware operates under a voltage of 0.4 kilovolts. The sections of the simulator are completely identical to the electrical equipment of the station, while its power circuits use a voltage to be safe for the personnel.

"We are working on a scheduled basis to equip a unique, Turkey's first training center for the training of NPP operational personnel. Last year, when the center began its operation, it was equipped with a full-scale simulator of the NPP main control room, where we began training specialists in managing the equipment of reactor and turbine shops. Practical training on simulators is mandatory for all operational personnel of the NPP. A simulator for training to work on the electrical equipment, manufactured at Rosatom enterprise especially for the personnel of the Akkuyu NPP, will allow us to improve the skills of employees of the electrical workshop. The specialists of the electric workshop will work out all the necessary skills on a new simulator in conditions as close as possible to the real ones", - said Sergei Butckikh, First Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Akkuyu Nuclear JSC - Director of the Akkuyu NPP under construction.

The Akkuyu NPP Training Center began operation on October 29, 2023 - the anniversary of the centenary of the Turkish Republic. At that time, a full-scale simulator of the main control room, an analytical simulator and a pre-training room were installed and ready for operation. To date, 6 shifts of NPP operational personnel have already been trained at the training center.

For reference:

Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant being built in the Republic of Turkey. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units equipped with Generation 3+ VVER reactors of Russian design. The capacity of each power unit will be 1200 MW. Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry being implemented according to the Build-Own-Operate model.

Russia continues to maintain a constructive dialog with its foreign colleagues, developing mutually beneficial cooperation. The implementation of major foreign energy projects also continues. Rosatom and its entities take an active part in this work.
